Mariam Batsashvili stands out among the leading pianists of her generation, recognized for her ability to draw sweeping orchestral depth from the keyboard alongside a delicate, crystalline lyricism.

Widely regarded as one of the world’s leading Liszt specialists, Batsashvili won the first prize at the International Franz Liszt Competition in Utrecht in 2014 and at the Franz Liszt Competition in Weimar in 2011. Founder of the Franz Liszt International Piano Festival, she actively supports rising pianists.

Batsashvili has performed in some of the world’s most prestigious venues, including Amsterdam’s Concertgebouw, Hamburg’s Elbphilharmonie, the Grosses Festspielhaus in Salzburg, the Royal Albert Hall, Berlin Philharmonie, Tonhalle Zürich, and Wigmore Hall, where she plays regularly. She has also played with some of the world’s leading orchestras, including the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra with frequent collaborator Alexander Shelley, BBC Symphony Orchestra, Rotterdam Philharmonic Orchestra, Brussels Philharmonic, and The Hallé under Kahchun Wong.

She recently played at the Proms with the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra, drawing warm praise from The Guardian: “The Georgian pianist gave an enthralling, controlled performance, notes dropping like liquid pearls.” Her previous appearance at the Proms was for her performance of Clara Schumann’s Piano Concerto with the Ulster Orchestra under Rafael Payare.

Batsashvili has appeared at major international festivals including the Klavier-Festival Ruhr, Schleswig-Holstein Musik Festival, Milan Festival Piano City, Festival Piano aux Jacobins in Toulouse, Beethovenfest Bonn, and Edinburgh International Festival. Following her performance there, Bachtrack declared her Liszt rendition “nothing short of electrifying.”

Since signing an exclusive contract with Warner Classics, Batsashvili released Chopin-Liszt to widespread acclaim. Gramophone magazine praised “the generous warmth of her interpretations,” while The Guardian hailed her unique sensitivity to “Liszt’s inner life, his melancholy, and his nonchalant poetry.” Subsequent releases feature works by Franck, Thalberg, and Schubert; her latest album adds Haydn, Mozart, and Beethoven to her repertoire focus on late Baroque, Viennese Classical, and Romantic composers.

Highlights of her 2026/27 season include returns to Wigmore Hall, Klavier-Festival Ruhr, Cheltenham Festival, and Queen Elizabeth Hall at Southbank Centre, among others. She will also play once again with the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra and the Cottbus Philharmonic Orchestra and will debut with the Orchestre de Chambre de Genève and the Bergische Symphoniker.

Batsashvili studied from an early age with Nataly Natsvlishvili in Tbilisi, later pursuing her artistic formation with Prof. Grigory Gruzman at the Hochschule für Musik Franz Liszt in Weimar.
