Metamorphosis takes various shapes to delve into the world of dance from different angles.

As joint choreographers, Ansa and Bacovich have had spectacular success and have been commissioned to create short and full-length works for theatres, gala events, and festivals across the globe. Together, the pair has created over 20 choreographies, and their work has been performed by dance companies such as Compañía Nacional de Danza in Madrid, Theater Regensburg, Bern Ballet, Basel Ballet, Augsburg Ballet, and CPBC (Lisboa). As part of opera productions, their work has been seen in The Seven Sins at Teatro Arriaga and in La Sonnambula at Teatro Real. Their choreographies have also been performed at various dance schools, including the Hong Kong Academy of Performing Arts, Arts Umbrella in Canada, and Alonzo King LINES Ballet in San Francisco. Full-length creations by the Metamorphosis company include “Dog Talks”, “Al Desnudo”, “Elkarrizketa Ilunak”, “CreAcción”, and “Prisma”.

Additionally, site-specific dance Encounters have been created at the Guggenheim Museum in Bilbao, Power Station of Art in Shanghai, Tabakalera in San Sebastian, Mona Museum in Hobart, Tasmania, Mãe d’Água reservoir in Lisbon, and the Pompeii ruins, among many others.

Founded in 2019, the Metamorphosis dance company led by dancer-choreographers Iratxe Ansa and Igor Bacovich, has appeared on important stages in Spain, Italy, Portugal, Colombia, and South Korea. Upcoming performances include the premieres of “Breathless” at Theater Osnabrück in Germany and “Travellous” for the Ballettschule Theater Basel in Switzerland, as well as a tour with “Prisma” that will travel to Teatro La Zarzuela in Madrid and later to Bolzano.

Visual impact is central to the authors’ focus and is reflected both in the set designs chosen and in the production of short films and photo-choreographies, which constitutes an important facet of their creative work.

BIOGRAPHIES


Iratxe Ansa

Basque dancer Iratxe Ansa graduated from the John Cranko Schule in Stuttgart and worked in some of the most important European companies for over 20 years, most notably, Basel Ballet, Gulbenkian Ballet in Lisbon, Spanish National Dance Company, Opera Ballet of Lyon, and Nederlans Dans Theater (NDT). She has danced for legends such as William Forsythe, Jiri Kylián, Nacho Duato, Mats Ek, Ohad Naharin, Wayne McGregor, and Crystal Pite.

In 2009 she left NDT to launch a successful career as choreographer and freelance dancer. Her collaboration with Igor Bacovich in 2013 led to the creation of Metamorphosis. In 2020 she was awarded the National Prize for Dance in Spain.

Igor Bacovich

Italian dancer and creator Igor Bacovich took his first steps at the Accademia Nazionale di Danza in Rome and then continued his studies at CODARTS in Rotterdam. He has danced for Krisztina de Châtel, Bruno Listopard, and Nanine Linning, among others. Bacovich took a 6-year break from dancing to explore a career as a social worker, an experience which vitally shaped his creative drive.

As choreographer, he has a long list of works, many of which have been created together with Iratxe Ansa. His performances have led him to travel extensively around the world.
