WARSAW CHAMBER OPERA

Founded in 1961, the Warszawska Opera Kameralna (Warsaw Chamber Opera) is a prestigious Polish cultural ensemble celebrated globally for its exceptional artistic versatility, historical preservation, and vibrant international presence. Since its inception, the troupe has curated a remarkably diverse repertoire that spans medieval mystery plays, Baroque masterpieces, and classical favourites by Mozart, Rossini, and Donizetti, as well as specially commissioned contemporary stage works. Beyond large-scale operatic productions, the ensemble’s artists also excel in chamber, oratorio, and symphonic music across multiple eras.

The company produces major musical celebrations, including the Baroque Opera Festival, Claudio Monteverdi Festival, Gioacchino Rossini Festival, Polish Contemporary Opera Festival, and its flagship Mozart Festival, established in 1991, which runs for three months every year.

Tours have led the troupe to Vienna, the Netherlands, France, Spain, Italy, Germany, Scandinavia, Austria, Israel, Portugal, Slovenia, and Croatia. The company has also toured Japan seven times and made regular appearances at Lebanon’s Al Bustan Festival and Oman’s Muscat Music Festival.

The company was awarded the Giuseppe di Stefano Prize in Taormina, Sicily, for its production of Jean-Baptiste Lully’s Armide. The troupe frequently partners with elite European festivals and Polish public television (TVP Kultura) to broadcast landmark recordings of Gluck, Moniuszko, Tchaikovsky, and Rameau, and recently performed Bach’s St. John Passion at the Wiener Musikverein. Its early instrument orchestra, Musicae Antiquae Collegium Varsoviense (MACV), actively expands its acclaimed catalogue by releasing albums like Mozart’s Overtures alongside highly successful contemporary cross-genre collaborations.
